Privacy Policy
Effective 10 September 2026
SkipVid is operated by Yamato Studios LLC ("SkipVid", "we"). This policy explains what information the SkipVid iPhone app collects, how it is used, who it is shared with, and how you can delete it. SkipVid uses YouTube API Services. By using SkipVid you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's handling of your data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.
What we collect
| Information | When | Why |
|---|---|---|
| An anonymous account identifier | First launch | To keep your settings and enforce the free daily limit |
| Name, email address and profile picture from Apple, Google or the email you enter | If you create an account | To sign you in and keep your settings across devices |
| Your YouTube subscriptions (channel list) and the recent uploads of those channels, obtained through the YouTube Data API with your permission | If you connect YouTube | To build your feed |
| Channels you subscribe to from inside SkipVid | If you use Subscribe | To add them to your YouTube subscriptions, with your permission |
| Topics you pick, channels you follow, videos you open and finish | As you use the app | To rank your feed. Ranking runs on your device; a copy of these signals is stored with your account so they follow you to a new phone |
| Whether you hold a SkipVid Pro subscription, its renewal date and an anonymised purchase identifier | If you subscribe | To unlock Pro. Payment itself is handled by Apple; we never see your card |
| A daily count of the videos you read | As you use the app | To apply the free tier limit |
What we do not collect
We do not collect your location, contacts, or advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. SkipVid shows no advertising.
How summaries are made
When you open a video, SkipVid sends the public YouTube video address (the watch URL) and your chosen length to Google's Gemini API, which produces the slides. No information about you is sent with that request. The resulting summary is cached and may be shown to other SkipVid users who open the same video. Summaries are generated by AI and are not from YouTube.
Who we share data with
- Google / YouTube: to read your subscriptions and uploads through the YouTube Data API, and to generate summaries with the Gemini API.
- Firebase (Google Cloud): authentication, database and server functions that store the data above, in the United States.
- Apple and RevenueCat: subscription purchases and their status.
We do not sell your data and we do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. YouTube data is used only to provide the features you see in the app, in line with Google's API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How long we keep it
- Your feed built from YouTube data is refreshed every 15 minutes and never stored for more than 30 days.
- Your Google access token is stored only on your device, never on our servers.
- Account data (settings, follows, signals, subscription status) is kept until you delete your account.
- Daily read counters expire after 30 days.
Your choices
- Disconnect YouTube on the You tab. This removes the stored token and your YouTube data from SkipVid within 7 days.
- Revoke SkipVid's access to your Google account at any time at security.google.com/settings/security/permissions.
- Delete your account on the You tab. This deletes your account and every piece of data tied to it within 7 days.
- Manage or cancel SkipVid Pro in your iPhone's Settings under Subscriptions.
Children
SkipVid is not directed to people under 18 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
